England defender Eric Dier has opened up about his disappointment at being left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad in recent years, admitting that missing out on international duty is a source of constant frustration.

The experienced centre-back, who currently plays for Bayern Munich on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, has not featured for the Three Lions since March 2023. With 49 appearances for his country, Dier remains just one short of the milestone 50 caps — a situation he describes as “a whole problem in itself.”

Speaking to The Telegraph, Dier expressed how much it pains him to be absent from the national setup. “I don’t feel good about it at all. Yeah, I don’t like it. Being stuck on 49 [appearances] is a whole problem in itself! I’m very clear. I want to be back in the set-up,” he said.

Despite his omission, Dier has revived his club career in Germany since joining Bayern Munich in January 2024. His performances in the Bundesliga have reignited discussions about whether he deserves another chance with the national team, especially with Euro 2028 qualifiers on the horizon.
