A joint bid has been submitted by US businessman Todd Boehly and Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss to buy Chelsea, which was given up after ownership of 19 years by the Russian oligarch and billionaire, Roman Abramovich, confirmed property developer and Chelsea fan, Nick Candy.
There also have been talks about Crystal Palace’s minority owner, Josh Harris, who had also reportedly submitted an offer to purchase the club. The consortium of the two businessmen had attempted to purchase the Blues back in 2019 for 2.2 billion pounds only for the deal to collapse. The same group has struck a deal once again this year, following the unfortunate sanctions against the Russian owner, reported SkySports.
Nick Candy had also made statements regarding the purchase availability of the club, saying that several international partners are interested in buying the club. This includes billionaires and businessmen like Josh Harris who owns a minority stake in Crystal Palace, Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA and the New Jersey Red Devils of the NHL, Thomas Ricketts, the chairman of the MLB side the Chicago Cubs, US businessman Woody Johnson who is the heir of the Johnson&Johnson Company and several other parties like RedBird Capital Partners who has an 11% stake in Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group, according to SkySports. Not to mention, the MMA fighter as well, Conor McGregor who had made a 1.5 billion pounds bid for the same.
Beyond the bids put forward by the rightful businessmen, Roman has admitted that the profile and identity of the purchaser is also a major factor. He has always taken decisions in the best interest of the club as a football fanatic which thus proves his intention to sell as his continued ownership could be faced with a lot of consequences as a result of the escalated invasion. Roman is yet to make a confirmed decision about the transfer of ownership of the club as tensions at the club arise amid other sanctions against the Russian in the UK.
