Eintracht Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche has confirmed reports that Daichi Kamada is heading for the exit door. The Japan international is out of contract at the end of the season and is set to leave the club on a free transfer. “The situation with Daichi is that he will probably leave us,” Krösche told ZDF on Saturday evening. After six years at Deutsche Bank Park, Kamada’s contract at the club expires at the end of the season.

It is believed that Borussia Dortmund are in talks to sign Kamada on a free transfer, but no agreement has yet been reached. Dortmund CEO Sebastian Kehl recently told ZDF that Kamada “is an exciting player” but tried to calm transfer speculation by saying, “if there is anything to inform, we will do so”.

Kamada scored 18 league goals in the last three and a half seasons with Eintracht and 14 in European competitions. He was a critical contributor to their UEFA Europa League triumph last season. Furthermore, he played in all four of Japan’s games at the World Cup, as they defeated Spain and Germany on the way to the quarterfinals.
