Arsenal make move for Piero Hincapié as talks begin with player’s agent

Arsenal have initiated contact with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié, with the Ecuadorian centre-back reportedly open to a move to the Emirates. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Hincapié is attracted by Arsenal’s long-term project, and personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block if negotiations progress.

The Gunners are in the market for defensive reinforcements, but a deal for Hincapié will likely hinge on outgoings. Jakub Kiwior has been linked with a transfer to FC Porto, while Oleksandr Zinchenko could also depart the club this summer. Their exits are viewed as key pieces in Arsenal’s defensive reshuffle, potentially paving the way for a new centre-back signing.

Hincapié, 22, has developed into one of the most promising young defenders in the Bundesliga mostly under Xabi Alonso’s guidance at Leverkusen. Meanwhile, rivals Tottenham Hotspur have already tested Bayer Leverkusen’s resolve with a proposal worth €60 million, structured as a loan with an obligation to buy over four years. However, that offer was swiftly rejected by the German champions, who are under no pressure to sell unless their valuation is met.
