Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist has received loan proposals from Preston and Sheffield United. The 20-year-old will decide on his preferred destination in the coming days. As a result, Gilchrist will not be joining Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the USA.

Chelsea has also decided to leave academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah at home. The 25-year-old defender is expected to leave the club on a permanent basis during the summer transfer window. Any fee received for Chalobah would be pure profit for the club.

Gilchrist, who impressed under Mauricio Pochettino last season, has a strong advocate in Chelsea icon John Terry. Terry has previously supported the idea of Gilchrist going on loan to gain regular first-team experience. With both players set to miss the pre-season tour, Chelsea’s squad will head to the USA without them.
