Vivo the Title sponsor for IPL 2020 has announced it will cut ties with the BCCI resulting as backing out as a Title sponsor for the Tournament which was about to get underway on September 17.
Just a couple a day earlier the Governing Coucil (GC) of IPL confirmed that they have retained all their sponsors including VIVO as their Title sponsor for the upcoming season of IPL which was shifting to UAE, the Chinese mobile firm has caused a big blow to the Indian Cricket Board with this decision.
Last Year in December VIVO retained the title sponsorship for IPL with a bid of Rs 2,199 crore for the next five years, The BCCI and the GC had faced criticism for not cutting the ties with the Chinese sponsors amidst the Border tension between India and China and decided to stick with the sponsors, However VIVO has decided to end the ties for only this year and will be back next year with deal that last till 2023.
The BCCI has now only a month or so to sort out he fuss and look for a sponsor as the Tournament is said to take place from September 17 and this news will also be a big blow for the Franchise who are fighting over to claim compensation from BCCI having losing out the Gate money in UAE.
