On Friday, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the second Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg by saying that the event is step towards making Jammu and Kashmir a hub of winter sports. Players and Athletes from 27 states and Union Territories are competing in the Games which will end on March.
He said in a virtual address, “This is a step towards making India’s presence felt in international winter games arena and also make J&K hub for winter sports”. “These games in in Gulmarg show that J&K is eager to reach new heights of peace and developments.”
He added, “These games will strengthen the resolve for ‘EK Bharat, Shreshth Bharat.’ I am told that the participation of players has doubled this year and it is a reflection of the tendency towards winter sports in the country.”
The games are being organized by the sports ministry and the Winter Games Association of J&K.
The orders to be contended the Games include alpine skiing, nordic ski, snowboarding, ski mountaineering, ice hockey and ice skating and many more.
PM by addressing the 1200 players said that, “When you show your talent in Khelo India-Winter Games, remember that you are not just a part of a game, but also you’re the brand ambassador of self-reliant India.”
“The world evaluates India by what you do on the ground,” he added.
PM stated, “The two Khelo India center of excellence in Jammu and Srinagar and Khelo India centers in 20 districts are great facilities for the young participants. Such centers are being opened all over the world.”
