Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu finished fourth in the women’s 49 kg category at Paris Olympics 2024. She lifted a total of 199 kg.
Thailand’s Surodchana Khambao clinched onto bronze medal with 200 kg. Mirabai would have been the first Indian weightlifter to bag two Olympic medals had she finished in top three.
Mirabai lifted 88 kg in snatch and 111 kg in clean and jerk, which gives her a total of 199 kg.
It was a heartbreak for Indian fans as India’s steeplechase runner Avinash Sable also missed out on his medal. Earlier in the day, on Wednesday, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for being overweight in 50kg wrestling match. The wrestler was supposed to face USA’s Sarah Ann in the later day for final match.
