Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma saved the best for the last as his performance in the final round at the DS Automobiles Italian Open led him to finish at tied 12th in the leader board. He turned in an amazing five under 66 to make him achieve that position.

He started his final day with a bogey but showcased a sizzling performance from the fifth hole onwards. He hit seven birdies from the next hole onwards from the fifth to the thirteenth hole and was looking set for a top ten finish but he hit back to back bogeys on the fourteenth and fifteenth hole which set his progress back before he finished his match with a birdie to put himself on 66. In total, Sharma ended up eight-under which was five more than the winner of the tournament Nicolai Højgaard.

Nicolai Højgaard held off the competition in the tournament by earning his maiden European Tour title with a one-shot victory. His twin brother Rasmus Højgaard also participated in the competition but ended up in the 18th position. The Danish 20-year-old golfers became the first ones to win back to back European Tour tournaments after Rasmus won the Omega European Masters in Switzerland last week.

Nicolai came into the final round with a one-shot lead and found himself two clear on the first nine before back to back bogeys on the fourteenth and the fifteenth holes led to Tommy Fleetwood and Adrian Meronk being level with him. Nicolai hit a birdie on the 18th to seal the victory and end the tournament overall at 13 under par.

Meronk and Fleetwood ended up sharing the second spot with the score being 12 under, which was just one shot behind Højgaard after posting rounds of 66 and 71 respectively.
