Formula One confirms its termination of contract with Russian Grand Prix

Formula One has decided and terminated its contract with the Russian Grand Prix and Russia will not have any race in future.

On Thursday, March 3, 2022, Formula One confirmed the termination of the contract with Russian GP and the country will not have any race in future, reported by Sky Sports media.
The contract which was made until 2025 and the shift of circuit from Sochi to a new purpose-built circuit named Igora drive due to start from 2023 will no longer happen.

The Formula One governing body, FIA, has stated the termination of the contract with Russian GP due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Russia’s invasion of Ukraine launched on 24th February which led to many sports around the world not hosting in Russia further. Earlier, Formula One cancelled the scheduled race on 25th September 2022 in Saint Petersburg Stadium, Russia. While ATP Challenger Tour cancelled its upcoming tour in Russia and FIFA suspended Russian clubs and national teams of Russia from playing in all competitions.

The 22-year old Russian motor racing driver, Nikita Mazepin, who is the sole Russian player in Formula One sees an unformidable future with its team and Formula One. So he might not be able to participate in the upcoming races of 2022 and the future of Formula One. While the Hass team has removed its Russian sponsors and Uralkali branding on the final day of testing at Barcelona.

The Russian Grand Prix which entered Formula One in 2014 will not continue to host any race for Formula One in any foreseen future. Many competitions and clubs/teams are taking action against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Even many countries are protesting all around the world.
