Formula 1: FIA denies Aston Martin’s right to review Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification

The formula 1 ruling body has come out and said that they would not revisit the disqualification of the four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel after failing to provide 1.0-litre of fuel sample after the race.

FIA, the formula One ruling body has come out and said that they would not revisit the disqualification of the four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Aston Martin had sent in a request to review after Vettel was disqualified in the Hungarian Grand Prix that lost him a second-place finish. The German driver was disqualified due to a technicality after his team were unable to extract the required 1.0-litre fuel sample after the race had ended. Aston Martin were only able to get 0.3-litre fuel out of car number 5 falling way below the required amount.

The team had initially believed to have 1.44-litres of fuel remaining in the car post-race according to the telemetry data shown by the car.

It was said that Aston Martin had discovered a malfunction in their fuel system that failed to contribute to the circumstances that led to the fuel not being pumped into the tank where the FIA could not access it or which would have resulted in the injection of fuel during the race itself. This part remains to be unclear.

The Silverstone based team had launched two right to review requests with the stewards and the appeal against the decision.

They had requested to review the “new significant evidence“ which was unavailable to them earlier. This was an analysis of more than 100 channels of fuel system-related data. The stewards had accepted the newly brought element that threw new light on the failure of the fuel system.

The FIA statement readout Aston Martin had to present facts that there was more than 1.0-litres of fuel remaining and deeming the “new significant evidence” to not be relevant.
