F1: Carlos Sainz gets his maiden race win at Silverstone GP

The Spaniard who had secured the maiden pole of his career on Saturday converted it to a fantastic race win.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz secured his first-ever race win in a mind-blowing British Grand Prix as Sergio Perez finished second for Redbull Racing and the final step on the podium was taken by the home favourite Lewis Hamilton for Mercedes. This was the 10th race of the 2022 Formula 1 race calendar.

The race had a very terrible start as Williams driver Alex Albon and Alfa Romeo’s Guanyu Zhou had dangerous accidents in the very first lap and they were taken for necessary checkups in the medical facility. The incidents also saw Mercedes driver George Russell being retired for the first time out of 10 races.

A late safety car which was brought in because of Esteban Ocon stopping his Alpine car on the side of the track made the gap between the drivers closer. Charles Leclerc was leading most of the race but finished 4th as the late safety car ruined his strategy as well as the race and eventually Sainz overtook him for the lead followed by Perez and Hamilton.

Alonso finished 5th and had a brilliant race by battling with the front runners in the last few laps of the race. Mclaren’s Lando Norris finished 6th. The Championship leader Max Verstappen finished 7th following a puncture and eventually had taken some damage to his Redbull.

The race saw 14 drivers finishing as George Russell, Pierre Gasly, Guanyu Zhou, Alex Albon and Valtteri Bottas failed to cross the finish line of this thrilling Silverstone GP.
