Last offseason, the Boston Red Sox bid adieu to star shortstop Xander Bogaerts, who found greener pastures with the San Diego Padres after the Sox failed to pony up a suitable contract offer. Instead, the Padres swooped in with a jaw-dropping $280 million deal spread over 11 years.
While the front office may have fumbled in expressing their appreciation through a contract, Red Sox faithful made sure to shower Bogaerts with love on Friday night.
During his first return to Fenway Park since donning the Padres jersey, the Red Sox rolled out the red carpet. A heartfelt video tribute lit up the center field board, accompanied by thunderous applause and a standing ovation from the fans.
