The Senegalese Football Federation has confirmed it will take legal action to challenge the decision that stripped Senegal of their title.
The federation is set to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), seeking to overturn the ruling made by the Confederation of African Football, which recently awarded the championship to Morocco.
According to reports, Senegal have also formally requested CAF to suspend the implementation of the decision while their legal team prepares a comprehensive case for CAS. The move comes amid growing outrage within Senegalese football circles, with officials insisting that the verdict was both premature and unjustified.
CAF’s ruling had declared Senegal to have forfeited the AFCON final, awarding Morocco a 3-0 win and the title in what has become one of the most controversial decisions in the competition’s history.
However, Senegal’s federation remains firm in its stance, arguing that due process was not followed and that the integrity of the tournament has been compromised.
The appeal to CAS sets the stage for a high-stakes legal battle that could ultimately determine the rightful AFCON champions. If successful, Senegal could reclaim their title, while a rejection would solidify Morocco’s status as winners.
