Portuguese defender João Cancelo has publicly revealed his frustration over his situation at Al Hilal, claiming that he was misled regarding his place in the club’s Saudi Pro League squad.

Speaking to DAZN, Cancelo said that he had been assured he would be included in the domestic league squad after joining the Saudi giants. However, the full back later discovered that he had been left out, a decision that clearly disappointed the former Manchester City and Barcelona star.

“Someone at Al Hilal lied to me,” Cancelo said during the interview. “They told me I was gonna be included in the Saudi League squad, but then I was left out.”

The Portugal international did not hide his frustration over the situation, but he also made it clear that he has decided to move on instead of creating further tension around the issue.

“I decided to move forward, I’m here, I won a title at Barcelona, I’m happy,” he added.

Cancelo spent last season on loan at Barcelona and played an important role under manager Flick. His performances helped the Catalan side remain competitive across competitions, while he quickly became a fan favourite because of his attacking quality and versatility.
