Harry Maguire has agreed a new contract with Manchester United, extending his stay at Old Trafford until June 2027, with the club holding an option for a further year until 2028.
The England international centre-back, who joined from Leicester City in 2019, expressed huge pride in committing his future to the Red Devils.
Maguire’s Emotional Statement
“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day,” said Maguire.
“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.
“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”
Career at Manchester United So Far
Maguire has made over 266 appearances for United since his record £80 million transfer, which made him the world’s most expensive centre-back at the time. His journey has included highs and challenges: he was appointed club captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjær in 2020, but the armband was removed by Erik ten Hag in 2023.
Despite receiving interest from other clubs and admitting he was “extremely disappointed” at losing the captaincy, Maguire stayed committed and continued fighting for his place in the team.
Strong Resurgence and New Deal Details
The new deal reflects Maguire’s impressive resurgence in the 2025/26 season, where he has delivered solid defensive performances, contributed goals, and added leadership to the backline. Reports indicate he has accepted a significant wage reduction to help the club’s financial structure, highlighting his dedication to Manchester United.
At 33, the experienced defender brings aerial dominance, composure on the ball, and vast Premier League know-how as the squad aims to challenge for major silverware again.
