Real Madrid defender Éder Militão has not yet decided on surgery for his latest muscle injury and will initially pursue conservative treatment with physiotherapists, aiming to be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury in the biceps femoris of his left leg during Real Madrid’s La Liga match against Alavés on April 22. The club confirmed the diagnosis on April 23, stating his progress would be monitored daily. This setback has officially ended his club season.

According to journalist Marcos Benito, Militão is prioritising non-surgical rehabilitation to accelerate recovery and remain available for Brazil’s World Cup campaign, which begins in June. Sources close to the player, including ESPN reports, indicate the injury is not expected to sideline him from the tournament.

Militão has a history of significant injuries, including knee issues in previous seasons, making this decision a calculated risk focused on long-term fitness and international ambitions. Further medical assessments and a potential surgery decision are anticipated in the coming days. Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti is expected to finalise his squad in mid-May.
