Current world number one Elavenil Valarivan bettered Apurvi Chandela’s finals world record to win the women’s 10m rifle competition in the third national selection trials on Thursday.
Divyansh Singh Panwar had also crossed the finals world record mark that was previously held by a Chinese shooter, in the men’s 10m rifle final on Wednesday.
Elavenil shot 253 while Apurvi who is a Tokyo Olympic quota holder managed 252.9 in an ISSF World Cup two years ago.
In the other events of the day, Tokyo quota winners won their respective trials. Two-time Olympian Sanjeev Rajput continued his excellent performance as he topped the qualifications with a score of 1176 in the men’s 50m rifle three positions before advancing to a victory in the finals with 462.2.
While Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, also a Tokyo quota winner, came second with 458.1. He was in second place in the qualifications as well with 1172.
Manu Bhaker, the current world number two in her event won the third women’s 10m air pistol trials very easily. She topped the qualifications with a score of 584 and the won the finals with an effort of 243.7 after 24 shots.
Additionally, Vijayveer Sidhu won the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event. Vijayveer shot 35 in the finals to defeat Bhavesh Shekhawat, who shot 29.
