The Detroit Lions had a rough start to their joint practice on Monday, with cornerback Terrion Arnold and guard Kevin Zeitler both leaving early to be evaluated for injuries. Fortunately, there’s some good news on both fronts.
Head coach Dan Campbell reported that Arnold, who was being checked for a concussion, has cleared the concussion protocol and will be back for practice on Tuesday. Arnold was hit hard by Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas but managed to stay on his feet, showing impressive resilience.
As for Zeitler, who has a shoulder issue, Campbell assured that the injury is “minor” and won’t have a long-term impact on the veteran guard. Zeitler will sit out Tuesday’s practice, but it’s not expected to keep him out for long.
Tight end Sam LaPorta also faced a setback before Monday’s practice due to a hamstring issue. Campbell noted that it doesn’t seem to be a serious problem.
There are a couple of new injuries to keep an eye on: defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu and linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez are both sidelined after getting injured the previous day. Campbell indicated that these are minor issues, though specifics are still unclear.
The most significant injury news came just before Campbell’s Tuesday morning press conference. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that cornerback Emmanuel Moseley has torn his pectoral muscle. This injury will keep him out indefinitely, although Campbell mentioned there might be a chance for Moseley to return later in the season. This is a tough break for Moseley, who was coming back from a second torn ACL and competing for the slot cornerback position.
