In a setback for Zimbabwe, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Brendan Taylor has injured one of his fingers during the opening ODI against Sri Lanka at the Harare Sports Club on Friday, August 29. Taylor, who was part of the playing XI and entrusted with keeping duties, appeared in discomfort and was forced to leave the field after the incident.

As a precautionary measure, Clive Madande has taken over the wicketkeeping gloves. The severity of Taylor’s injury is yet to be confirmed, and Zimbabwe fans will be hoping it is not serious, given his importance to the team’s batting lineup.

Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bowl first. Sri Lanka, led by Charith Asalanka, began their innings with Pathum Nissanka and Nishan Madushka opening the batting. At the time of the injury, Sri Lanka were at 9/0 in 2.2 overs, with Nissanka batting on 8 and Madushka yet to open his account. Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani shared the new ball for Zimbabwe.

This match marks the start of the three-match ODI series, part of Sri Lanka’s tour of Zimbabwe, 2025.
