The Zimbabwe side will be head-coached by Walter Chawaguta for their white-ball tour to Sri Lanka in January. However, Walter has been appointed as an interim head coach for the men’s senior national team. This will be his second stint as head coach for Zimbabwe after 2008. He has also been acting as the batting consultant for the Zimbabwe women’s team for years.

Walter’s appointment came amid former coach Dave Houghton’s resignation on December 20, marking a significant change in leadership. Houghton’s departure followed Zimbabwe’s inability to secure a spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup via the Africa Qualifier.

In a fiercely contested tournament with two coveted spots available, Zimbabwe fell short, finishing third in the standings despite a commendable effort of four wins and two defeats. The setbacks occurred early in the competition, with losses to Namibia and an unexpected upset against Uganda in their initial three games. Despite these challenges, Zimbabwe displayed resilience by bouncing back with victories in their subsequent matches.

Zimbabwe’s tour to Sri Lanka will kick off on January 6, which will consist of three ODI matches followed by three T20Is. All the matches will be played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
