In what could become one of the most high-profile coaching shifts in IPL history, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is in discussions with the Lucknow Super Giants regarding the head coach position, as per developments emerging from team circles. While Yuvraj has never held the head coach role for a professional franchise before, he has served as a mentor in the Abu Dhabi T10 League and has been heavily involved in grooming young Indian talent in recent years.
The interest in Yuvraj marks another major restructuring move from the Sanjiv Goenka-owned side, following the additions of Bharat Arun as bowling coach and former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson as a strategic advisor. LSG is also believed to have parted ways with Zaheer Khan, while Carl Crowe has come in to guide the spin department.
Justin Langer, who joined ahead of IPL 2024, has reportedly struggled to build strong rapport with domestic talent, prompting the franchise to consider an Indian head coach. Yuvraj’s mentorship pedigree — visible through the rise of Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and other young batters — has made him an appealing candidate for the franchise’s leadership reset.
LSG entered the IPL in 2022 and made playoffs in their first two seasons but underperformed in the last two editions, missing out on the top four. With Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Akash Deep, and Avesh Khan managing injuries last season, their Indian pace core remains a crucial concern heading into the next cycle.
While talks with Yuvraj are ongoing, a final decision is yet to be made — but should the move materialise, it would mark one of the most significant coaching appointments the league has seen in recent years.
