Australia has added another trophy to their impressive collection as they emerged victorious in the World Test Championship. The final match at the Oval concluded with a comprehensive win for the Australian team. While Australia was the favored side to win, India still held a glimmer of hope at the start of the final day.

The pitch didn’t offer much assistance to the bowlers, and India appeared comfortable during the initial stages of the day. However, the tide turned when Nathan Lyon bowled to Mohammed Siraj. Siraj attempted a reverse-sweep to a delivery that pitched at a good length, only to find the ball landing straight into the hands of backward point fielder. With that catch, the Australian captain sealed the win and the World Test Championship title.

The Australian team’s triumph signifies their dominance in the longest format of the game. Their exceptional performance throughout the tournament led them to this momentous victory. As the celebrations begin, Australia can revel in the accomplishment of capturing the only missing silverware in their already impressive trophy cabinet.

In a post-match statement, Indian captain Rohit Sharma analyzed the team’s performance in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia. Despite a disappointing loss, Sharma highlighted several aspects of the game, including the team’s strong start, bowling challenges, and the unwavering support from the crowd.

Sharma acknowledged the team’s positive start, winning the toss and electing to field in challenging conditions. The bowlers showed promise in the first session but eventually struggled to maintain their momentum, allowing the Australian batters to gain control. He credited the opposition batsmen, particularly Travis Head and Steven Smith, for their impressive performances that caught the Indian team off guard.

While the comeback was challenging, Sharma commended the team’s resilience and fighting spirit until the very end. He emphasized the hard work put in by the team over the past four years, expressing pride in reaching the final stage of the competition. Although the ultimate victory eluded them, Sharma recognized the significance of playing two consecutive finals and expressed a desire to strive for even greater success in the future.

Rohit Sharma: I thought we started well with winning the toss, putting them to bat in those conditions. We bowled well in the first session and then we let ourselves down with how we bowled. Got to give credit to the Australian batters. Head came in and played really well along with Steven Smith. That just took us off guard a little bit. We knew it was always hard to comeback, but we put up a good show. We fought till the end. We’ve worked hard for all those four years. Playing two finals is honestly a good achievement for us. But we’d like to go a mile ahead as well. You can’t take the credit away from what we’ve done in those last two years to come here. Great effort from the entire unit. Unfortunate that we couldn’t go on and win the final but we’ll keep our heads high and fight. (Crowd support) It’s been brilliant. They’ve gotten behind the time. I’d like to thank each one of them. They were cheering for every run and every wicket.
