Mumbai Indians Women (MIW) delivered a clinical performance to secure a six-wicket win over UP Warriorz (UPW) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. The victory, achieved in 19 overs, lifted MIW to second place on the points table, while UPW remained last, now on the brink of elimination.

Kerr’s brilliance restricts UPW to 150

Opting to bat first, UPW managed 150/9 in 20 overs, failing to build any substantial partnerships. The innings was derailed by Amelia Kerr’s sensational five-wicket haul, as the New Zealand all-rounder ripped through UPW’s middle order. Despite some late hitting, UPW’s total remained below par on a good batting surface.

Matthews dominates with bat, extends WPL form

In response, MIW’s chase was anchored by Hayley Matthews’ stunning 68 off 46 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. The West Indian opener, in a half-century stand with Nat Sciver-Brunt, provided the perfect foundation for Mumbai’s chase.

Even after Matthews was dismissed by Kranti Goud, MIW remained in control. Yastika Bhatia (10*) and Amanjot Kaur (12*) completed the chase in the 19th over, sealing an emphatic victory.

MIW push for playoffs, UPW on the brink

With this win, MI-W moved to eight points winning 4 games out of 6 matches played, consolidating their playoff position behind Delhi Capitals. Meanwhile, UP-W, with just two wins in seven games, are practically out of the tournament and now only have a mathematical chance of qualification. With DC-W at the top of the points table, the two probable team to qualify will be DC and MI.
