RCBW unfortunately had to take an exit from the WPL 2024 after DCW defeated them with a run-out claiming a one run victory in a nail biting finish. Delhi Capitals Women gave a giant target of 181 which RCBW batters made sure to chase it down but sadly were short by just one run. However, the match was filled with thrilling moments shifting the rift from RCBW to DCW on every single ball. Smirti Mandhana, skipper of RCBW showcased her feelings on how tough it is for entire team to take this loss.
“Tough loss to take. The way we were batting, the way Richa was going, brilliant innings and Shreyanka’s last over was brilliant to watch,” said Mandhana.
The skipper also highlighted Richa Gosh’s impressive innings and efforts along with Shreyanka’s brilliant bowling to restrict Delhi Capitals from reaching the 200 mark.
“She (Shreyanka’s) had a niggle, not that she was not dropped, a player of her quality there was no way of dropping. Really happy for her, especially the last over, showed a lot of character,” Mandhana added.
Smriti was really happy how the team performed overall and mentioned on how her contribution in this match would have made a difference.
“We have seen a lot of Richa in WPL and international cricket, Perry was going well, unfortunately she got run out. The game could have gone anywhere in the last ball and good on Delhi as well to keep their nerve and win. One run does not make us a bad team. Good effort with the shorter boundary to restrict them to 180. We really believed that we could chase this down. Would tell the girls to keep their heads high and come back stronger the day after”, the skipper concluded.
With this win Delhi Capitals have qualified the playoffs and currently stand tall on the top the leaderboard.
