Cheteshwar Pujara came within touching distance of a landmark T20 century before suffering a heartbreaking dismissal during the World Legends Pro T20 League 2026 clash between Dubai Royals and Gurugram Thunders at the 1919 Sportz Cricket Stadium in Goa.
Pujara, representing Gurugram Thunders, was stumped for 99 off 60 balls after missing a delivery from Piyush Chawla, with wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel effecting the dismissal. The right-hander’s innings was studded with 14 fours and one six, scored at a strike rate of 165, and had put Gurugram firmly in control of the chase.
The dismissal was particularly significant as it denied Pujara what would have been his first-ever century in T20 cricket, across both domestic and international appearances. Known predominantly for his red-ball credentials, the former India Test mainstay showcased an aggressive and fluent side to his batting, countering spin and pace with equal authority.
At the time of his dismissal, Gurugram Thunders were cruising at 197 for 4 in 19.3 overs, needing just four runs off three balls to seal the contest. Pujara’s knock formed the backbone of the chase, complemented by a late flourish from Thisara Perera, who remained unbeaten on 56 off 27 balls.
While the century will remain elusive for now, Pujara’s innings stood out as one of the finest knocks of the tournament so far, underlining his adaptability even in the shortest format of the game.
