Despite scripting history by winning their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup title, celebrations for the Indian women’s cricket team have been put on hold as attention quickly shifts to the upcoming Asia Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet scheduled a victory parade for the champions, with top officials currently attending ICC meetings in Dubai from November 4 to 7.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that no parade has been finalised so far and plans will only be taken up once senior administrators return. “Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now,” Saikia stated, adding that the board’s immediate priority includes addressing the Asia Cup trophy handover issue at the ICC forum.
India had declined to receive the Asia Cup trophy and medals from Pakistan’s Interior Minister and ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi after winning the Men’s T20 Asia Cup final on September 28, citing diplomatic concerns. The board is expected to push for fair retrieval of the trophy and ensure due recognition for players.
While fans continue to celebrate the women’s team’s World Cup triumph, the focus for Indian cricket’s leadership now turns to securing the Asia Cup honours and navigating diplomatic complexities — leaving the grand celebrations for another day.
