New Zealand skipper Tom Latham, while expressing disappointment at falling agonizingly close to victory, acknowledged the sheer brilliance of the game that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Latham highlighted the early challenges faced by his team, with Australia putting them on the back foot from the outset. He commended the resilient efforts of Glenn Phillips, who bowled exceptionally well under pressure, picking up crucial wickets during his spell. Latham praised Phillips’s dedication and hard work, emphasizing how it paid off when it mattered the most.

The New Zealand skipper also lauded the remarkable contributions of his openers and Rachin Ravindra, whose stellar innings showcased exceptional determination and skill in the chase. Despite the heart-wrenching loss, Latham expressed pride in his team’s performance, acknowledging the collective effort that went into the game.

Reflecting on the venue, Latham praised Dharamsala as a fantastic place to play cricket, underlining the unique atmosphere and charm the stadium offered. In a friendly nod to New Zealand’s rugby team, the All Blacks, he extended his best wishes for their upcoming final, expressing hope that they would bring the World Cup home.

Fantastic game of cricket, ebbed and flowed throughout the 100 overs. To come so close obviously hurts, but a fantastic game. They put us on the back foot straightaway and at that point and it was about containing them and keep taking wickets. He (Phillips) bowled well under pressure, to come and bowl 10 overs and pick up 3 wickets it was really crucial. Great to see the work he is putting in and it is paying off. The openers got us off to a fantastic start and Rachin played a fantastic knock, one of the better ones you will see chasing. It was a great effort and proud of the guys. It (Dharamsala) is a fantastic place to play cricket. Just want to say all the best All Blacks (New Zealand rugby team) can’t wait to watch the final and hopefully they bring the World Cup home.
