India’s star cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to miss the Asian Games as the BCCI plans to send a B team for the tournament. The decision is due to the A team’s involvement in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.
The BCCI will submit the player list to the Indian Olympic Association by June 30, with players like Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad likely to be included in the B team. Cricket was absent from the Asian Games in 2018, but India will make a comeback in the 2023 edition in Hangzhou.
The BCCI is considering sending the top Women’s team for the Continental Cup. This isn’t the first time India has fielded two national teams simultaneously. Despite the absence of top players, the Asian Games will provide an opportunity for emerging talents to shine.
