Former cricketer Irfan Pathan has given his verdict on whether Indian stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami will feature in the 2027 ODI World Cup. With speculation mounting that the trio may not be in the selectors’ long-term plans, Pathan believes the answer will depend on one key factor: game time.
Speaking to RevSportz, Pathan highlighted how all three players remain committed to their fitness, but stressed that consistency in playing matches will ultimately determine their participation. “I’ve spoken to Rohit and he’s very keen about fitness. Virat, I’m sure, is very keen as well, with the way he has been practising in England. I have also seen a statement from Shami saying he’s very keen too. If I’m looking at things as a broadcaster, I think the game time they get on a regular basis will decide their presence in the World Cup,” he said.
Rohit and Kohli, who have already retired from T20Is and Tests, are expected to play in the upcoming ODI series against Australia in October, while Shami’s return remains uncertain after a lengthy injury layoff. The trio last appeared together for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which India went on to win.
