A dramatic pause in the Asia Cup 2025 Group A clash between Pakistan and UAE came when on-field umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge was accidentally struck on the ear by a throw from Pakistan wicketkeeper Haris Rauf.

The impact left Palliyaguruge dazed, and after brief on-field treatment by the physio, he decided to walk off for further medical attention. His departure has raised the question of who will replace him on the field to continue officiating duties.

As per ICC tournament protocols, the fourth umpire steps in when one of the on-field officials is unable to continue. An announcement is expected shortly on who will officially take Palliyaguruge’s place in this high-pressure fixture.

At the time of the incident, UAE were 37/3 in 5.5 overs, chasing 147 runs for victory.
