Bangladesh’s senior-most batter, Tamim Iqbal, has made the decision to step down as the ODI captain with immediate effect. This move comes shortly after the cricketer’s sudden retirement decision from international cricket, which was later reversed following an intervention from the Prime Minister.
Tamim’s decision to relinquish the captaincy is aimed at lightening his workload ahead of the World Cup. Despite his retirement as captain, he remains optimistic about returning to action during the upcoming New Zealand series. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will now appoint a new ODI captain, with Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das being potential candidates.
