The Pretoria Capitals have confirmed that South African spinner Keshav Maharaj will lead the team in the upcoming SA20 2026 season. The franchise announced the decision through an official statement, highlighting Maharaj’s experience, calm leadership style and strong international pedigree across formats.

Maharaj replaces a rotating captaincy approach used last season, where Rilee Rossouw and Kyle Verreynne shared leadership duties during SA20 2025. For the new campaign, the Capitals have opted for a single, stable captain, placing their trust in the 34-year-old left-arm spinner who has already captained South Africa in white-ball cricket.

The franchise described Maharaj as one of the country’s “most respected leaders,” noting his tactical clarity, consistency and ability to guide teams through high-pressure phases. His presence, they added, strengthens both the balance and direction of the squad heading into the tournament.

Maharaj has been a senior figure in the national setup, often praised for his temperament and decision-making. His appointment signals Pretoria Capitals’ intent to bring structure and steady leadership as they eye a strong run in SA20 season four.

The 2026 edition of the SA20 begins on 26 December 2025, with MI Cape Town entering as defending champions and Sunrisers Eastern Cape remaining the most successful team in the league’s history with two titles.
