Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal was spotted at the family court in Mumbai on Wednesday, attending the final divorce proceedings with his estranged wife, Dhanashree Verma. A viral video shows Chahal entering the court premises, appearing somber as he prepares for the legal closure of his marriage.
Bombay High Court directs early divorce settlement before IPL 2025
The Bombay High Court has directed the family court to finalize Chahal and Dhanashree’s divorce before March 21, citing his commitments for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The couple, who filed for divorce in February 2024, had initially sought to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period. However, the request was denied after Chahal had only paid Rs 2.37 crore out of the agreed Rs 4.75 crore alimony.
With Chahal now complying with the settlement terms, the High Court has ordered that the remaining amount be paid after the official divorce decree is issued.
Marriage and public fallout
Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma got married in December 2020 but have been living separately for over two years. Rumors about their troubled marriage surfaced in January 2024, which Dhanashree dismissed as “baseless.” Taking to social media, she had alleged that trolls were spreading misinformation and attacking her character.
Dhanashree’s statement amid divorce speculation
In a past statement, Dhanashree expressed her frustration over online speculations:
“The past few days have been incredibly tough for my family and me. What’s truly upsetting is the baseless writing, devoid of fact-checking, and the character assassination of my reputation by faceless trolls spreading hate. I’ve worked hard for years to build my name and integrity. My silence is not a sign of weakness, but of strength.”
As the court proceedings near a conclusion, Chahal is expected to leave for IPL 2025 duties, where he will play for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming season.
