Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has hit back at Roy Keane’s criticism in a revealing new interview on The Diary of a CEO podcast with Steven Bartlett. The Portuguese star addressed claims that he prioritizes assists over team success, calling out what he believes are twisted words.

In the wide-ranging conversation, Fernandes stated: “I don’t mind criticism. I have always taken criticism from everyone. People can have an opinion. But what I don’t like is when people lie.” He emphasized his consistent chance creation since joining the Premier League, saying, “I have been creating chances since day one, this has never changed.”

The tension stems from Keane’s comments on a recent match where he accused Fernandes of focusing on assist records rather than shooting. Fernandes clarified that his post-match comments were self-critical — admitting he should have shot instead of passing — but Keane allegedly misrepresented them.

“I have always shown respect for Roy Keane,” Fernandes added. He even asked former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Keane’s number to address the issue directly, describing the comments as “a little bit over the top” and “unacceptable.”

Fernandes’ Leadership and Record

Despite the drama, Fernandes remains a key figure for Manchester United. This season he has contributed significantly with goals and a league-high assists tally, helping secure Champions League football under new manager Michael Carrick. The 31-year-old stressed that team success comes first and talent alone isn’t enough without character and fight.

Fans and pundits continue to debate the exchange between the two strong personalities. While Keane is known for his no-nonsense analysis, Fernandes defended his mentality and commitment to the club.
