Wassim Jaffer’s pick among Dinesh Karthik & Rishabh Pant for T20 World Cup in Australia

Wassim Jaffer has picked Dinesh Karthik ahead of Rishabh Pant for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia as a wicket-keeper.

In the ongoing T20I series between India against South Africa, stand-in T20I captain, Rishabh Pant, has been struggling to make runs. Rishabh Pant has scored only 57 runs in 4 T20I matches against South Africa. On other hand, Dinesh Karthik who made his comeback after 16 years in T20I cricket has impressed everyone with his incredible performance. He registered his maiden fifty in the shortest format against South Africa in the fourth T20I of the five-match series on Friday, helping India level the series. The 37-year-old went on to play a knock of 55 runs off just 27 balls with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes.

In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, the Indian former player Wasim Jaffer said, The experienced players of Indian team like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar Yadav are coming back to the T20I squad which is going to be hard for Rishabh Pant to make place for himself in the squad. Looking at Dinesh Karthik’s form, Dk will get preference ahead of Rishabh Pant.

Further, he said, “I think DK has overlapped Rishabh Pant at least at the moment. I can’t say about the future, but at the moment you would pick DK any time in front of Rishabh Pant,” After starting the series with a quickfire knock of 29 off 16 deliveries, Pant’s form waned and he could only register scores of 5, 6 and 17 in the next three matches.
