The two times ICC T20I champions failed to impress in the ICC T20I World Cup 2022 after winning just one match out of their three games. The power-packed West Indies, unfortunately, have to depart early not making it any further after round 1 of the tournament.
WHAT WENT WRONG FOR THE WEST INDIES
The two times champion didn’t look in a good shape in Australia but things went wrong even before they reached the T20I venue when their power hitter Shimron Hetmyer missed the flight and was dropped off the team at the very last moment.
It didn’t play well for the players present at the tournament either including skipper Nicholas Pooran failing to make any positive impact.
Sadly, veteran coach Phil Simmons also announced that he will step down from the position at the end of the year.
THE FUTURE OF THE INDIES
With such a disappointing start to the T20 World Cup, the team must do an entire review excluding the all ‘ifs and buts’. From the dangerous indies, we all know to a weakling in the world-level tournament suggests that the halcyon days of West Indies cricket are seemingly over.
The team requires new management and a new temperament that ensures the new breed of players is committed to victory before the next ICC ODI World Cup.
