“Time to play Shubman, KL should take a break,” says this former Indian opener

Indian cricketer KL Rahul , is going through a rough patch. Due to injuries, he has previously missed a lot of games. With the exception of ODIs, he had never had a dry spell in any of the other formats. He was, however, benched from the Test team due to subpar performance. He lost his vice-captaincy in limited overs after a string of poor T20I performances.

KL Rahul struggled in both innings of the most recent second Test against Australia, which compelled BCCI to remove KL as vice-captain of India.

The selectors have made it clear that Rahul will no longer serve as vice captain for the remaining two Tests against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, despite the fact that captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid have made it clear they will continue to support him.

Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth said that although he is a big fan of KL Rahul, he wants to see KL having some time off from playing cricket at the moment.

“I have tremendous admiration for the class of Rahul, in fact I call him Rolls Royce Rahul… but it is just not happening for him at the moment. If I was the chairman of selectors, I would have gone up to him and told him to take a break for a while,” Srikkanth told The Times of India.

Shubman Gill should play the third Test in Indore, which begins March 1, according to Srikkanth.

“But with all due respect to Rahul, it is time to play Shubman. You can’t keep a player waiting when he is in the form of his life,” Srikkanth said.
