Sydney Sixers and Australia Women’s wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy’s WBBL season is in jeopardy following an injury sustained in a domestic accident at her home on Saturday evening (October 21). Healy underwent surgery on Sunday, October 22, although specific details about the injury and the accident leading to it were not disclosed by the Sydney Sixers.

The severity of Healy’s injury is evident, considering the absence of a replacement for her on the Sixers’ roster. This absence, however, suggests that her condition might not be serious enough to rule her out for the entire season. The upcoming challenge for the Sixers against Brisbane Heat at North Sydney Oval on Tuesday (October 24) evening will be a crucial test for the team.

In Healy’s absence, young wicketkeeper Kate Pelle is expected to don the gloves, marking only her second WBBL appearance after her debut against Melbourne Stars on Thursday (October 19). The team’s woes don’t end there; middle-order batter Mathilda Carmichael was also sidelined from Sunday’s match due to a back strain sustained during a training session on Saturday.

Additionally, with bowler Gabby Sutcliffe unavailable due to injury, the Big Bash has permitted the inclusion of Frankie Nicklin as the Sixers’ 13th player, albeit solely as an emergency sub-fielder for the upcoming clash against Sydney Thunder.
