Suryakumar Yadav’s exclusion from the Test squad after just one inning has raised concerns among fans and sparked questions about the team management’s decision-making. Despite a promising start, Yadav was dropped without being given a proper chance to prove himself.
Fans expressed their disappointment and confusion on social media, criticizing the lack of vision from the BCCI selectors. However, a senior BCCI official explained that Yadav’s omission is more related to the upcoming World Cup 2023 than the ongoing West Indies tour.
The official stated that Yadav remains an important player for the team, with the Asia Cup and World Cup on the horizon, and advised him to focus on white-ball cricket for now.
“It’s obvious that if Surya was in the squad, he would have played ahead of Ruturaj or Yashasvi. And the team wants to try someone new. But Surya is not out of Test plans yet. He is a very important player with Asia Cup and World Cup coming up so, he must focus on white-ball cricket for now. He will get his chance,” the BCCI official explained. (Inside Sport)
In the ODI format, Yadav has struggled to replicate his T20 success, making it challenging for him to secure a spot in the World Cup playing XI.
