Sri Lankan Cricketer, Nuwan Thushara has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the team’s departure for the five-match T20 series against Australia.
Nuwan was a part of the 20 member Sri Lanka squad to play against Australia in a five-match T20 International series. The team trainer, Dilshan Fonseka had also tested positive for COVID-19.
The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a statement that both were found to be positive during a routine PCR test conducted among the squad and the support staff, who are currently staying in a Bio-Secure Bubble ahead of the team’s departure to Australia.
Currently, Thushara and Dilshan Fonseka are following COVID-19 protocols and will rejoin the team on February 10, upon completion of the protocols. The Sri Lankan team is all set to leave for Australia on February 3.
Sri Lanka’s first match of the series against Australia will be played on February 11, following the second and the third match on February 13 and 15 respectively. The fourth match will be played on 18th February and they will finish the series with the last match on February 20.
After this, the team is due to be in India for a two-match Test and three-match T20 series beginning from February 25 with the five-day games.
