South Africa won the second test match against New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch by 198 runs. South Africa won the toss and elected to bat in the second Test and scored 364 runs with the help of Sarel Erwee’s century. Along with Sarel Erwee, captain Dean Elgar and Aidan Markram also played well. After the excellent batting of South Africa, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada also bowled brilliantly and took 5 wickets for 60 runs in 19 overs. Colin de Grandhomme (120) and Daryl Mitchell (60) in the first innings of New Zealand’s innings helped New Zealand reach 293 runs.
South Africa batted brilliantly in the second innings as well, losing 9 wickets for 354 runs and declared the innings, and set a target of 426 runs in front of New Zealand. Wicket-keeper batsman Kyle Verryenne scored an unbeaten 136 for South Africa in the second innings. In the second innings too, with the help of superb bowling from Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, South Africa was successful in winning the second Test match by 198 runs. Kagiso Rabada took a total of 8 wickets in this test match, for which he was also awarded the ‘man of the match’ title.
After losing the first Test by an innings and 276 runs, South Africa made a tremendous comeback in the second Test to level the series 1-1 and draw the series. Matt Henry took a total of 14 wickets in this series, for which he was also awarded the title of ‘Man of the Series.
South Africa’s talented wicket-keeper batsman Kyle Verryenne scored 188 runs in this series with an average of 62.67 and was the top scorer of the series.
