Shreyas Iyer is back in the domestic league as he is set to join Mumbai for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Rajkot, against Rajasthan on Tuesday (20th October). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has granted exceptional authorization to include Iyer in the side, despite the fact that he would serve as an unofficial 16th player. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has been notified by the BCCI that it is permitted to have 16 players in the team but only 15 in the dugout. Previously replacing Sardhul Thakur, Suryansh Shedge will now serve as the 16th member and will be seated outside the dugout. Iyer asked for permission to join the team after the most recent series against South Africa. He was originally scheduled to go to Australia with the Indian side as one of the standbys for the Twenty20 World Cup. Later, though, things changed.
Ajinkya Rahane’s fitness troubles have been disregarded by MCA officials. Prithvi Shaw headed the team in place of Mumbai’s captain, who missed the past two SMAT games against Assam and Vidarbha. Rahane, who was named captain for the entire season, will, according to MCA authorities, be available for the upcoming game.
