Last-over thriller

Sunrisers Hyderabad held their nerve to beat Chennai Super Kings by 10 runs in a tight finish at Hyderabad. Defending 194, SRH kept CSK to 184 for 8, closing the game with a disciplined final over from Praful Hinge.

CSK needed 18 off the last six balls. Jamie Overton started with a brace but never found timing and fell at long-off trying to go big. A waist-high no-ball added brief hope, but SRH stayed in control. Anshul Kamboj could only manage singles at the end.

Earlier, Eshan Malinga (3 for 29) led the bowling, with support from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Sakib Hussain. Ishan Kishan managed the closing overs calmly as SRH sealed the win.

CSK innings stalls after early blows

CSK never settled in the chase. Sanju Samson fell early, and although Ayush Mhatre countered with intent, his innings ended abruptly after a hamstring issue disrupted his rhythm. He made 30 but his dismissal shifted momentum. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s lean run continued with 19, leaving the middle order exposed.

Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan tried to rebuild. Short made 34 off 30 but struggled to accelerate. Sarfaraz’s 25 off 19 showed some urgency, yet neither could take control long enough. A brief stand kept CSK in the game, but regular wickets meant the required rate kept climbing.

With 46 needed off the last four overs, the task fell to Shivam Dube and Jamie Overton. Dube could not find fluency and fell at a key moment, while Overton never timed the ball well. SRH’s bowlers stayed ahead, using variations smartly. The chase faded without a final surge.

SRH innings built on early burst

SRH’s total was set up in the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma struck 59 off 22 balls, attacking from the start and taking apart Matthew Short in one over that defined the early phase. Travis Head added quick runs before CSK pulled things back through Mukesh Choudhary.

The middle overs saw a slowdown with wickets falling, but Heinrich Klaasen held the innings together. His 59 off 39 was measured, keeping the scoreboard moving without taking undue risks. Cameos from Nitish Kumar Reddy, Salil Arora and Shivang Kumar added useful runs.

The finish, however, lacked impact. After Klaasen’s dismissal, SRH lost momentum, managing only 40 runs in the last five overs while losing four wickets. Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj picked up three wickets each to keep CSK in the contest.
