The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued an official update on Shreyas Iyer’s health, confirming that the Indian batter is on the road to recovery. A repeat scan conducted on Tuesday, October 28, showed significant improvement, with Iyer’s condition reported as stable.

According to reports from Cricbuzz, Iyer recently underwent a minor surgery following an accidental fall during a catching attempt that led to a ruptured spleen. The incident, which took place in Australia, required immediate surgical intervention. The procedure was minor but has prompted doctors to recommend at least five to seven days of complete rest.

The Indian team management and the BCCI have been closely monitoring his recovery through Dr. Rizwan Khan, the team physician in Australia. In addition, the board is arranging travel for a member of Iyer’s family to join him in Sydney.

As of Tuesday, Iyer is said to be in good spirits — taking calls, eating home-cooked meals, and even managing his day-to-day activities.

India’s T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav also shared a reassuring update on his teammate’s recovery.

“We spoke to him on the first day when we got to know about the injury. I called the physio Kamlesh and he said Shreyas was stable. Now, we’ve been talking for two days. He’s been replying to messages, which means he’s doing fine. There’s also a doctor with him, so everything is under control,” Suryakumar said from Canberra.

The BCCI has maintained that Iyer’s condition is nothing alarming, and his return to cricket will be guided by medical clearance in the coming weeks.
