Former cricketer Wasim Akram has shared his views on the issue of Pakistan playing against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Despite the Pakistan Cricket Board expressing reservations to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the match between the archrivals was scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad.
Akram stated that Pakistani players have no problem playing in Ahmedabad and they are not concerned about the schedule. He emphasized the need to set aside egos and move on, leaving political issues to the governments.
Akram urged players to speak up if they believe something is wrong but to plan and execute strategies effectively. He emphasized that while patriotism is important, at the end of the day, it is just a game.
Pakistan also had concerns about playing against Afghanistan in Chennai and Australia in Bengaluru, and they won’t be playing in Mumbai until the semi-finals due to security reasons. If they qualify, the match will be relocated to Kolkata.
“I’m all for egos. If you have an ego and understand that what’s happening is wrong, then speak up. But again, move on then. Always plan it, always think if we can do it? Can we finish what we’ve planned to do? If we can’t, then don’t do this. It ends up becoming a cause for laughter.
We’re all patriotic for our country. And they will be for their country. No doubt about it. But at the end of the day, it’s only a game. Governments will speak to each other, that’s their problem,” the former Pakistan international added.
