Former Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has chosen the location at Wankhede Stadium where his statue will be installed in the coming months by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The Indian Express previously reported on the MCA’s plans to erect a Tendulkar statue within the stadium grounds.
Tendulkar was invited by MCA president Amol Kale on Tuesday morning to choose the location for his statue. He chose a spot directly across from the MCA lounge.
Earlier today, Sachin expressed his feelings on being honored with such “surprise” –
“Well it’s a pleasant surprise. The president is here, Mr. Kale and the other committee members are going to join us in a while. We’ve come here to identify a spot. The idea was shared with me, and as I said it is a pleasant surprise. My career had started here and this is like the completion of a big circle,” Tendulkar told ANI.
