Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has firmly denied speculation that he is in the running to become the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Unverified reports had earlier suggested that the batting legend was being considered for the top administrative post. However, SRT Sports Management, which represents Tendulkar, issued a statement clarifying that no such development has taken place.
“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations,” the statement read.
The clarification comes just weeks before the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28, where elections will be held to appoint the president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, treasurer, one member of the Apex Council, and two members of the Governing Council.
With this denial, Tendulkar has put to rest rumours linking him to cricket administration, reaffirming that he has no role in the upcoming BCCI elections.
