Ruturaj Gaikwad’s golden touch continues, scores 3rd consecutive ton for Maharashtra

Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has continued his fine form in Vijay Hazare trophy as he smashed his third consecutive century this season .

The tremendous touch of young Ruturaj Gaikwad continues as he smashed his third consecutive century in the ongoing Vijay Hazare tournament.

He played a brilliant innings of 124 runs off 129 deliveries he faced against Kerala to help his side post a safe-looking total of 291 runs after losing the toss. Maharashtra however lost the match by 4 wickets as Kerala chased down the target with 7 balls to spare.
Gaikwad along with Rahul Tripathi who himself missed out on century, added 195 runs together for 3rd wicket and took their team to a big total after two early wickets. He smashed 9 fours and 3 sixes for his knock and helped his team to recover from a vulnerable situation. This was his third consecutive century in the tournament after 136 against Madhya Pradesh and an unbeaten 154* against Chattisgarh.
Gaikwad has now equalled the tally of Mayank Agarwal who scored three centuries in 2017-18 in the tournament and now just behind Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal who scored four centuries each in the last edition of Vijay Hazare trophy.

The 24-year old now has scored 414 runs in 3 innings of the tournament at an average of 207.

The Maharashtra captain has been in the touch of his life and continuing it in this tournament as well as he is eyeing a selection in ODI squad for South Africa tour which is yet to be announced and it is believed that selectors are keeping an eye on the tournament and will announce the squad anytime soon with the players performing well in the Vijay Hazare could be considered.
The youngster was also the Orange cap winner in IPL 2021 scored 635 runs at an average of 45.35 and strike rate of 136.26 and helped his team winning the title for the fourth time. He made his debut for the National side in July earlier this year and was also part of the squad for T20I series against New Zealand. He also has been retained by his CSK franchise at 6₹ crore in the recently happened Retention event going in the mega auction for next IPL season.
