These players will be replaced by young guns. The question troubling selectors the most is the appointment of a stand-in captain in the absence of Kohli from the first test against New Zealand. The dilemma intensifies, keeping in mind that Rohit Sharma has been already named as the replacement of Kohli for the shortest format. Simultaneously Rahane has been efficient as a captain during the Australian tour. With several questions being raised regarding his form, it turns out to be a tough decision for the selectors to make.

TOI’s reports however claim that the management has decided to go with Rahane as the captain. Also, they had agreed to name Wriddhiman Saha as the replacement of Rishabh Pant. At the same time, K Bharat might make his way from India A as the reserve keeper for the squad. Also, ahead of the series, which starts from the 17th of November, BCCI has decided to give its players a short leave. Half the squad players were a part of the ongoing T20 World Cup, while the other half is engaged in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. Hence, they will be allowed to go home and spend some days with their families before assembling for the series against New Zealand.
